Marvelous Wearable Monsters

I love old monster movies. One of my favorites is The Crawling Eye. When my husband came home from his special effects shop with a bag of random resin eyes, I just had to start creating Crawling eye figures.

I went from the dolls to making wearable pieces. I mean really... who wouldn't want a beaded representation of alien monsters who pop the heads off unsuspecting
humans?

I have dolls, barrettes and pendants in stock at the moment as well as resin eyes if you'd like to make a monster of your own.

Preparing for my Scrooge-a-thon

Every year I read A Christmas Carol and watch a few of the different movie versions that have been made over the years.

I think the Alastair Sim version is my favorite, but the George C. Scott version runs a close second.

But then again, I love the part in the Albert Finney Scrooge where he's relegated to the coldest office in Hell. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rCJ69RycJkA

And the scene where Scrooge's poor victims are dancing on the old bugger's coffin is hysterical http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uiNMz_745vQ the reprise of Father Christmas always makes me so happy.

Of course there are several really bad versions out there, like the one with Henry Winkler or the 50's live tv version with Fredrick March. But I'll even peek at them sometimes.

I think I love the story of Scrooge because no matter how bad life seems; how selfish and rotten I feel sometimes; I watch Scrooge see all the good that could have happened in his life if he had been braver and more caring and realize I can improve myself too. Aspiring to be more than you are, is the only real change you can make in your life that really benefits you and the others around you.

I hope all of you have a Happy Holiday and aspire to be a better soul in the new year.

They Work by Night...Or at least some of us do

I'm a night person. I like to work between 2pm and 2 am the most.

I seem to work out my most difficult design problems late in the evening. Sitting quietly and meditating or doing something totally unrelated to my sculpting often brings a possible solution. But figuring out solutions to design issues in my dreams doesn't happen very often for me.

I used to keep a notebook by my bed, but it wasn't much of a help. I don't sleep for very long, but I sleep very deeply. I even get up and do things and even have conversations with my eyes wide open, but ... I have no memory of any of it. During these times, I filled the notebook with artistic gems like stick figures with word balloons that say "Cookies are good."

Working late at night also gives you the chance to catch old movies and have quiet time to yourself. Of course a movie like They Drive By Night is only good for the chance to see Bogart and to watch the rest of the cast chew through the scenery. I'm not sure why, but I was watching this movie when I came up with my first HexCat design. Maybe it was a gut response to the dog I was watching?
